Woman hears Strange Noises At Night, Unravels A Secret That Leaves Her Startled

Doug put down his sandwich, his smirk fading into concern. “Emily, have you… checked the attic thoroughly? I mean really looked? Sometimes old houses hide pests, like raccoons, squirrels, or even rats. They can make a lot of noise at night.”

Emily shook her head, wrapping her arms around herself. “I haven’t gone up there yet. I’ve been too nervous… I don’t know what I’d even do if something was up there.” Her voice trembled, betraying the mixture of fear and curiosity that had been growing each night.

Doug leaned back, giving her a thoughtful look. “Why don’t you check it during the day? Bring a flashlight, maybe even a friend. It’s always scarier in the dark. And if it’s just a critter, you can deal with it safely.”

Emily bit her lip, hesitating. The idea of confronting whatever—or whoever—was in the attic filled her with both dread and resolve. “Maybe… maybe you’re right. I can’t keep living like this.” She paused, trying to steady her breathing. “I’ll go up there tomorrow, and I’ll figure it out once and for all.”

Doug nodded, giving her a reassuring smile. “Good. And hey, if you want, I can come with you. Two sets of eyes are better than one, especially if something jumps out at you.”

Emily allowed herself a small, nervous laugh. “Thanks, Doug. I think I’ll need the moral support.” Deep down, she felt a spark of determination. The next day, she would face the source of the noises, whether it was a ghost, a raccoon, or something else entirely.
