Find out: this is the right way to eat a banana

Apparently, We’ve Been Eating Bananas Wrong All Along 🍌

Peel it and eat it—that’s all there is to bananas, right? Well, not exactly. Turns out, most of us have been peeling them the wrong way our whole lives. Here’s the “right” way (and why it makes sense).

Start at the real top

Most people peel a banana from the stem. But technically, the stem is the bottom of the fruit—it’s the part that attaches to the plant, and bananas actually grow upward from there. So, the true top is that little black nub on the other end.

And here’s the trick: pinch the tip. It opens smoothly without the struggle of cracking or squishing the fruit. Monkeys do it this way—and they might just know a thing or two about bananas.

What’s with the black tip?

That tiny black bit is what’s left of the banana flower. Once the flower falls off, the tip remains. The bonus of peeling from this side is that you can easily flick off the tip if you don’t like eating it, leaving you with just the perfect fruit inside.

Eating it

The good news? Once you’ve peeled it, you’re free to enjoy your banana however you like. Peeling it the “right way” just makes the process easier and less messy.
